Beested

Theo Jansen is creating a new species and a new nature. His creatures, "Animari," are self-sustaining "beests" made of plastic yellow tubes. A physicist-artist hybrid, Jansen releases his beests onto the beaches of the Netherlands and lets them walk around for a while, propelled by the wind. Jansen says that since his beests don't need to eat and are evolving to survive bad weather, the Animari will soon be able to live their own lives.
