If you find yourself confused by what critics claim is ground-breaking art, if you frequently think a 5-year-old can do that, if you have ever reached the conclusion that art is stupid, then don't feel alone. There are always sane people scratching their heads at the work of crazy artists.
The unbelievable: a $7,500 piece of art that you can buy, but can't own
The culprit: Caleb Larsen
The down-low: In early 2010 Larsen created an 8-inch cube titled "A Tool to Deceive and Slaughter." The cube, made out of black acrylic and custom electronics, is up for auction on eBay. Once purchased, it is shipped to the bidder's home and the bidder, under contract, must plug in the cube's built-in ethernet cord. Minutes later, the cube puts itself back up for auction.
The unnecessary fun facts: Larsen claims that if the new owner, dubbed in the contract as the "collector," refuses to plug in the cube, he would lose his connection to the piece. He describes the cube as remaining in an "eternal transactional flux." The cube currently has no bids.
