In the glamorous and fast-paced world of fashion, no one is more important to a fashion house's image than the head designer. Months before any looks ever make it down the runway of a fashion show, designers spend hours sketching ideas — the first of many steps in the tedious process of creating a collection. But before a designer can sketch, they must draw on people and places that have inspired them, which can come from just about anything. Marc Jacobs has used muses that range from an edgy, 1980s rock ‘n' roll girl to the elegant image of a New York City prima ballerina. Since sources for inspiration are endless, we decided to see what a collection might look like if the University was chosen as a muse. Brigette Kolson, a recent fashion design graduate from The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, recently drew up three sketches for a ready-to-wear line inspired by Rutgers University, incorporating everything from our school colors to our armor-clad mascot.
