Just Go With It, Adam Sandler's newest romantic comedy, follows Sandler's usual formula to get laughs but still delivers despite its predictability.
The film stars Sandler as Danny, a successful plastic surgeon who pretends to be married in order to get women. When he meets his perfect girl — without his wedding ring — and she discovers it after a night together, Sandler has to convince her he is going through a divorce. Danny enlists the help of his longtime assistant Katherine (Jennifer Aniston), and chaos ensues.
Sandler and Aniston have surprisingly good chemistry and work very well together throughout the movie. Their relationship as old friends is completely believable and the audience is left rooting for them. Supermodel Brooklyn Decker does a fine job in her role as Palmer, Sandler's very nice yet much younger love interest, but she is clearly there to serve as a bombshell object of affection. Sandler and Aniston's relationship completely overshadows her.
Both Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge) and Nick Swardson (Grandma's Boy) are great in their supporting roles. Kidman steps out of her usual serious boundaries and delivers a funny performance as Katherine's annoying former frenemy, Devlin. Swardson is hilarious as usual, playing Sandler's ridiculous cousin. In one of the funnier moments of the film, he accompanies the family on vacation, with absurd glasses and a horrible German accent, pretending to be Katherine's new boyfriend, Dolph Lundgren.
Though the film is predictable, it is a feel-good romantic comedy that leaves the audience satisfied. Filmed on location in Los Angeles and Hawaii, viewers get to witness a dysfunctional family vacation. The dynamic between all of the characters, including the children, is absolutely convincing, with Sandler bringing to the table his usual humor.
Just Go With It is engaging and funny. Even though the film is predictable and doesn't bring forth any new ideas, it's still fun to watch. Like many of Adam Sandler's recent films, the movie is decent and brings about some good laughs.
