With more than 20 years in the musical industry and 17 top-10 singles, it is safe to say that the Goo Goo Dolls know how to make good music. Their latest album, Something for the Rest of Us, delivers on this expectation with good — not great — music. The band does not stray far from their norm, providing a familiar musical sound to their fans. The album as a whole is definitely easy and fun to listen to, but none of the album's songs really stand out.

When thinking of the Goo Goo Dolls, it is virtually impossible to not compare their work to their most critically acclaimed album, Dizzy Up the Girl, which contained the mega-hit "Iris." Since they've produced such monumental albums in the past, too many fans say their newly released album doesn't even come close to the album that made them famous back in 1998. However, that is not to say their latest album doesn't have potential to be well received.

Typical to their style, the Goo Goo Dolls provide simple and meaningful lyrics that leave listeners satisfied. They stick close to the formula that has worked for them in their past musical creations and do not seem to have any plans to change, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Though it lacks a massive hit, Something for the Rest of Us proves that you can't count the Goo Goo Dolls out just yet. Most rock bands from their time slowly faded away and out of the active music scene, yet the Goo Goo Dolls consistently deliver gratifying music and have a fan base that will allow them to continue churning out steadfast albums.
