J.Cole paid a visit to Rutgers for his second time this past Saturday evening and had a chance to witness his growing fan-base. Cole, having visited the University for last May's Rutgersfest, got a chance to embed some of his creative tunes into the ears of listeners early on and made quite a positive impression. Though the crowd that came to see him this past Saturday was not massive, his fan reception from May has undoubtedly grown—fulfilling the main aspiration of the young hip-hop artist. In a conversation with Cole, he stated that, "[I] like to perform to college crowds because I can relate to college-aged kids; they're one of my favorite places to perform." He proves his love for performing to college crowds with the stops on his current tour, with Rutgers only the beginning of it.
Cole has found out that what it takes to get to where he wants to be is going to take a lot of effort and he's up for the challenge. He's determined to not let anyone down. Commenting on his hype as being the "artist to watch," he says that, "[It] puts a good pressure on me, I want to produce and prove these people right. I want to make sure I give my fans the ability to say ‘Man, I told you so.'" With such an ambitious attitude it seems that success is not something that he will stumble upon, but rather something that he will do whatever it takes to obtain.
In his interview at Rutgersfest, Cole claimed he wanted to be most known for having no box — he didn't want people to put a limit on his abilities. When questioned about what he has done to eliminate his "box," he said, "my next single has the no box attitude, it will still be me 100 percent, but the nay-sayers and even my fans will be like ‘I didn't even know he could do this.'" Ultimately, this leads to much anticipation for the drop of his next single. When will we hear more from this rising star? Whenever his fans' anticipation peaks. For now, all we can do is clap for him and await his next tactical move.
