New Jersey is known for many things, but one of the most overlooked aspects is its uncanny ability of producing top-notch musical acts. From old school singers like Frank Sinatra and Whitney Houston to modern day rockers such as Senses Fail and My Chemical Romance, the Garden State has produced some of music's finest and most original recording artists. And with this great reputation presented, comes a band from the town of Garwood with an energetic sound and a style all their own.

The Downrights are made up of guitarists Eric Drylewicz and Jared Paparozzi, drummer Mike Dimaio and lead vocalist/bassist Keiran Tintle. The young quartet has been ripping it on stages all over the East Coast. The band has been around for five years — all four members have previously been in other bands building up their musical résumés and gaining showmanship experience. With influences ranging from rock pioneers such as Chuck Berry to punk heroes The Clash and Green Day, The Downrights' music combines the style and classic feel of Rockabilly with the raw and energetic edge of punk.

"We have many musical influences," said guitarist Eric Drylewicz. "Our style reflects rockabilly with a punk aspect, yet it's not necessarily ‘punkabilly.' We try to delve in as many music styles as we can." The band's crowning jewel, "Arizona Cowboy," which can be heard on the band's Facebook page, combines guitar parts reminiscent of Minus the Bear's music accompanied with Billy Joe Armstrong-esque vocals. The band is currently in the studio working on a new EP, which should be released within the next couple of months. You can catch The Downrights live on Sunday at The Crossroads in Garwood.
