It has been three years since Sum 41's Underclass Hero was released in 2007 and the pop-punk boys are back with a new release. Screaming Bloody Murder is the latest work of Deryck Whibley, Jason McCaslin, Steve Jocz and new lead guitarist Tom Thacker, who replaced original band member Dave Baksh.

After a three-year hiatus the Canadian natives are excited about their new work — they have made their comeback by introducing a pristine style to their routine music. Compared to the band's first hit, "Fat Lip" their new single "Skumfuk" sounds like a completely different band wrote it.Thacker adds the keyboard to the band's instrument lineup, bringing a positive change to the band.

The new album has slower, harder-hitting songs with melodic choruses and harmonic back up singing. Sum 41's first album, which included "Fat Lip," could be described as an upbeat, pop-punk album. This new style of music can possibly be credited to the events that have happened to band members over the past years. Whibley's separation from fellow Canadian musician Avril Lavigne seems to serve as inspiration for one of the bands songs. "Skumfuk" contains bitter lyrics that could be linked to the lead singer's feelings toward his break-up. "Well, what can I say?/I guess it's obvious you would end up this way/When you live amongst the dead/The best of luck/As the one and only resident scumfuk/A victim or just tragedy." These harsh lyrics display his ability to find security in producing more music and using it as an outlet.

Their new album is proof that even though the band has been through a lot this past year, including losing a founding member, they still have what it takes to make chart-topping music. If it is their aspiration to keep their fans happy, then their new album has served as proof at their attempt to do so.
