America's Next Top Model's 16th cycle premiered Wednesday night. The anticipation for the new season was incredibly high because when it comes to Tyra Banks, you never know what new and ridiculous ideas are up her sleeve.
The season started with an outrageous opening. Banks, the world's most conceited host, had to be in the spotlight for the first few minutes. After 15 seasons of exposing the audience to casting footage, the producers wanted to try something new. The idea to remove casting out of the first episode seemed to be a positive new format for the show —until Banks started "acting" in its place. Jaws dropped and eyes rolled when Tyra Banks put on a blonde wig, talked like a valley girl and gushed over her favorite brand, Hello Kitty. Banks' humor was far from amusing, yet dedicated fans gave the premiere a chance.
Cycle 16 opened with a lot of weight on its shoulders, but instead it has taken bizarre avenues to raise the bar. Intriguing photo shoots and harsh panels can only keep fans addicted for so long. If Banks doesn't drop her self-absorbed attitude and awful humor, fans will lose interest.
