If you were asked about your views on "love at first sight," what would your response be? CBS concocted a response of its own with the new show Mad Love.
Mad Love is a comedy you can call a revised fairytale, where the love is cheesy and the hatred is humorous. The series premiere begins with Ben Parr (Jason Biggs, American Pie) and Kate Swanson (Sarah Chalke, Scrubs) bumping into each other on top of the Empire State Building. After exchanging a couple of words, they fall in love. Thanks to that flame, Ben's best friend Larry Munsch (Tyler Labine, Dead Last) and Kate's best friend, Connie Grabowski (Judy Greer, 13 Going on 30) are forced to meet. After exchanging a couple of words, they instantly hate each other.
This fairytale then takes an interesting turn. After Ben and Kate's first amazing double date and Larry and Connie's dreadful double date, Ben's girlfriend, whom he has yet to break up with, appears at his apartment right after his first kiss with Kate. This disgusts Kate, and she does not follow up with Ben.
The two best friends spend the remainder of the pilot working together, despite their differences, to bring Kate and Ben back together. Leave it to CBS to renew the age-old scenario of opposites working together for a greater cause.
Unlike many relationship sitcoms, Mad Love is actually difficult to predict where the storyline will go. Every week Mad Love will bring viewers something different from both ends of the love-hate spectrum. Throughout the series we will see how each relationship develops — one blossoming and the other deteriorating — with just the right amount of humor. CBS chose the perfect show to premiere on Valentine's Day, both for those who are in love, and for those who have that one person in their lives they just can't stand.
