Miami is considered one of the hottest cities in America — and not just in terms of temperature. If celebrities are not living there, they are vacationing there. Covered with beaches, boats and bikinis, it is the ultimate party scene.
With the newest addition to the Housewives franchise hitting sunny Miami, one would expect a lot of craziness. Unfortunately, the season premiere was somewhat of a let down in the drama department. Housewives fans are used to seeing tables thrown and hair pulled, yet the gathering of these ladies consisted of a cooking class and wine sipping.
Unlike the Italians of Jersey or the blondes of Beverly Hills, the ladies are an exotic bunch. Alexia Echevarria names herself the "Cuban Barbie," and Cristy Rice talks highly of her Latin roots. Cristy, who was recently divorced from NBA star Glen Rice, is close gal pals with the Lebanese Larsa Pippen, wife of NBA player Scottie Pippen.
The divorced Marysol Patton runs the leading PR firm in Miami. She adds some typical housewife flair to the show as she searches for her perfect younger man. Her mother Elsa, a woman who clearly lives for plastic surgery, seems like she will be an interesting recurring character. The elder of the bunch, Lea Black, is married to a leading defense attorney, Roy Black. A natural leader, Lea explains to the audience that she likes to "collect" people in her life.
Of course, in every remarkable Housewives clan, there is one woman who is somewhat wilder than the rest. In this season, Brazilian beauty Adriana DeMoura-Sidi fills those shoes. With a confident personality and flirtatious demeanor, Adriana has got everyone talking. In the premiere, Adriana boldly struts down an empty runway after Fashion Week following a dare from the others.
There has only been one episode, so there is still time for scandal and catfights to build, but for now, the bunch seems pretty low-key and underwhelming.
